Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period Large faience scarab-shaped plaque, probably from a winged pectoral

Large faience scarab-shaped plaque, probably from a winged pectoral Culture Ancient Egypt Dating Third Intermediate Period – Late Period, circa 1070–664 BC Description Large scarab-shaped plaque in green faience, with a flat, undecorated reverse. The size and morphology exceed those of standard scarab seals, indicating that the object was not intended for use as a stamp or personal amulet. Such large faience scarabs were commonly employed as the central elements of winged pectorals, where the scarab symbolized rebirth and solar regeneration, with separately attached wings made of faience, metal or composite materials. The surface shows extensive ancient wear and burial-related erosion, consistent with prolonged deposition. Condition Complete as a plaque. Surface wear, abrasion and minor losses consistent with age. No restorations. Provenance Private collection of a French physician, formed before the 1970s. Dimensions Length: 46 mm
