A two-piece set of solid silver entree forks and spoons in 950 argent, Model Filet Rocaille in Louis XV-inspired Art Deco style, made in France by Veuve Ernest Compère (master mark Ve / le rabbit / EC) between 1888 and 1910, with original case and excellent condition showing minor age patina.
Description from the seller
Silversmith: Veuve Ernest Compère - Dessert cutlery (2 pieces) - Sterling silver .950 - Rocaille Fillet pattern - France - 1888-1910
Magnificent set of two pieces (dessert fork and spoon) in solid sterling silver of first quality (950/1000). This lot is a masterful piece of Parisian silversmithing from the Belle Époque.
The Goldsmith: Pieces bearing the maker’s mark of Léontine Compère (Widow of Ernest Compère), a prestigious house located at 79 Rue Quincampoix in Paris. The maker’s mark is perfectly identifiable: the initials Ve (Widow) at the top, a running rabbit in the center, and the initials EC at the bottom (engraved in 1888).
The Model: Decor “Filet Rocaille” in Louis XV style. The design is of great delicacy, with filet mouldings that unfold into sprigs of foliage and stylized shells.
Monogram: The cuffs of the sleeves are engraved with a calligraphic-style monogram 'EC', perfectly executed, which coincidentally echoes the initials of the goldsmith.
Presentation: The set is displayed in its original case, ensuring its preservation and its collectible value.
Excellent overall condition. Stunning patina and shine. Very light micro-scratches from use invisible to the naked eye. The fork tines and the spoon bowl are perfectly aligned and unworn.
Case: Good used condition, sturdy construction, interior lined with period silk and velvet.
