AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Islamic necklace with eye beads in vitreous paste from the 10th century AD. Good condition, 41 cm.
Eye glass beads are beads characterized primarily by circular decorations that resemble eyes, created using lamp work, inset, or mosaic techniques. One of the best examples of eye beads can be found among Islamic beads, mostly blue or green with white eyes, as well as eye-dotted Venetian glass beads (skunk). The eye decoration may be a simple eye or multiple eyes scattered across the surface of the bead; they can be plain or feature concentric designs with different colors. Eye beads may also display linear trails, zig-zag patterns, or floral decorations. These beads have been highly valued for centuries—and continue to be—by not only Islamic communities but also African peoples, as they are regarded as powerful amulets to ward off the evil eye and are believed to possess prophylactic and magical properties.

Acquired from a Spanish private collection, A.S.B in the 80s.
The piece includes an authenticity certificate.
