Rome, a signed first edition oversized hardcover by Elliott Erwitt, 144 pages with circa 120 black‑and‑white photographs, published by teNeues in 2009, with text in English, German, Italian and French, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptional oversized original edition, signed and dedicated on the title page by Elliot Erwitt (1928–2023), unique and unattainable on the internet in a signed copy. Do not confuse with the paperback reissues or mid-format editions that followed the publication of this original edition. 144 pages and about 120 black-and-white photographs printed full page and, for some, double-page spreads, captions of the photographs at the end of the book with miniature reproductions, text in English, German, Italian and French by Michele Serra, solid publisher’s binding illustrated on the cover and the back, and a dust jacket illustrated identically. In excellent condition, like new.
For centuries Rome has exerted a magical allure on both its inhabitants and travelers. Eliott Erwitt dives into the heart of this enduring charm. With meticulous precision, he reveals, not without humor at times, the charm of this magnificent metropolis. Imperturbable in the face of history, Erwitt portrays the distinctive blend of ancient glory and disarmingly casual indifference that characterizes the city. (editor's note).
Son of Russian emigrants, Elliott Erwitt was born in 1928 in Paris and grew up in Italy and France before his family emigrated to the United States in 1939. Elliott Erwitt attends high school while working in a commercial photographic lab where he develops prints. In 1949, he returns to Europe, where he travels and begins his professional career. In 1953, sponsored by Robert Capa, he becomes a member of Magnum Photos. He worked for Life magazine and participated in the famous exhibition The Family of Man at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in 1955, and for more than fifty years, his books, his documentary photography, his illustrations and his advertisements have appeared in publications around the world. Where his exhibitions have also enjoyed great success.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition, practically like new, kept with the utmost care. The shipment is very securely packaged and international postal tracking is guaranteed. For multiple purchases, it is possible to combine shipments with a refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
