Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Antique Victorian-style hand lens from Germany dating to ca. 1900–1910, with a silvered metal bezel and a solid bone handle, 25 cm high and 10 cm in diameter; the lens is clear, not modern, and the item is in good condition and tested working.
Description from the seller
This magnifying glass is fitted with a round glass lens set in a silvered metal rim. The handle is made of solid antler, recognizable by the natural vertical grain structure and color variation. At the top (near the lens) and the bottom end knob there are silver-colored mounts, richly decorated with floral and organic motifs. The end knob is sculpturally shaped and completes the handle in a heavy, balanced way.
The combination of antler and precious metal, along with the decorative style, points to an object that was both practical and a status symbol, intended for use on a desk or in a study or work environment.
Antler: The handle shows typical characteristics of real antler: natural porosity, irregular grain, and subtle color variation. This material was widely used in luxury household items around 1880–1920.
Metalwork: The floral decoration and the sculptural rendering of the end knob closely align with the Jugendstil aesthetic, in which natural motifs were dominant.
Lens: A clear glass lens; the lens is not modern and is absolutely an antique specimen.
