Description from the seller
This mixed media painting is by Robbert Fortgens (1960). Fortgens was born in Utrecht, studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and currently lives and works in Antwerp. In his early oeuvre, he was inspired by photographic realism, but after seeing the work of Willem de Kooning in 1988, he made a radical artistic turn towards abstract expressionism. Characteristic of his mature work is the fusion of painting and photography: two seemingly contradictory disciplines that he unites in a single visual language. By playing with paint, photography, and layering, Fortgens explores the tension between perception and imagination, resulting in a rich, ambiguous, and contemporary oeuvre.
