Box - Agate, Brass

Elegant antique decorative box in polished hardstone (probably agate), richly mounted.

The box has a rectangular shape, resting on four small turned feet. The finely worked metal mounts frame the stone panels and emphasize the edges. The central latch closure is functional and original.

The stone features superb natural veining, deep and irregular, a sign of authentic, high-quality material. The mount shows an even old patina, in keeping with the object's age.

This type of box was originally used as a jewelry box, a cigarette box, or a desk box, typical of productions from the late 19th century or the early 20th century, in the Napoleon III / Belle Époque style.

An old number (10966) is visible, most likely corresponding to a manufacturing or workshop number, reinforcing the authenticity of the piece.
