A single antique Chinese porcelain perfume bottle in the classic double-gourd form, decorated in underglaze blue with Kangxi-period floral motifs, mounted in a richly engraved Dutch silver mount (.833 fine silver) with a hinged cap; height 11.3 cm, body diameter 5 cm, in good antique condition with a hairline crack at the porcelain base and remnants of original mounting material.
Description from the seller
Beautiful antique Chinese porcelain perfume bottle in the classic 'double gourd' (calabash) form.
PORCELAIN:
The bottle is decorated in underglaze blue with a refined floral pattern of blossoms and leaves. The style and quality of the painting are characteristic of the Kangxi period (1662–1722). The porcelain has a bright white ground with a bright cobalt blue decoration.
SILVER MOUNTING:
The bottle features a richly worked Dutch silver mount with a hinged stopper. The silver displays fine engraving with rococo-like motifs and openwork details. The mount is marked with the Dutch assay mark 'zwaardje', indicating a silver content of at least 833/1000. The mount probably dates from the 19th century, when it was common in the Netherlands to mount imported Chinese porcelain with silver mounts.
