Description from the seller
Large Art Deco elephant – Bronze – approx. 1930–1950 – 40 cm – 5.1 kg
Description
Very beautiful and powerful decorative sculpture of an elephant with its trunk raised, executed in hollow-cast bronze with a deep, original dark brown to black patina.
The sculpture is dynamically conceived, with strong attention to anatomy and movement. The pose with a raised trunk traditionally symbolizes luck, strength, and prosperity. The style and modeling are typical of the Art Deco / early Mid-Century period.
This type of animal statue was produced in the first half of the 20th century for representative interiors in Europe (notably France, Belgium and Germany). There is no signature or foundry mark present, which is common for high-quality decorative objects from this period.
