Olle Svanlund (1909–1996) was a Swedish painter and lithographer whose career was split between Sweden and France. His work evolved from a figurative style influenced by his masters into geometric and colorful abstraction.
Education and Influences
Svanlund benefited from internationally renowned, high-quality training that has profoundly shaped his style:
Germany: He studies at the Reiman Art School in Berlin (1927–1928).
France: He settled in Paris in the late 1920s where he became the pupil of two major figures of modern art: Fernand Léger and Othon Friesz. Léger's influence is notably evident in the structuring of his forms.
Denmark: He completes his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (1938–1941).
Style and Career
Although born in Sweden (in Blekinge), he spent most of his life as an artist in Paris, while regularly staying at his summer house "Svanlunda" in the south of Sweden.
Artistic evolution: His early works include harbor scenes, landscapes of Skåne, and portraits. Later, he turned to abstraction, creating lithographic compositions characterized by geometric shapes, targets, and vivid color contrasts (such as his Yellow Target series).
Recognition: He has exhibited in numerous international galleries and his work has been presented within prestigious institutions.
