Description from the seller

A fine bi-folio from a damaged Qur'an dating C1820 of North Indian origin. The scripture is from the doctrine of Chapter 2 of the Qur'an, Al-Baqarah (The Cow), v33-45, which focus on the story of Adam and Iblis (Satan), the subsequent guidance for humanity, and direct appeals to the Children of Israel to recognize the truth of the new revelation. Key themes within these verses are: Repentance & Mercy: Allah accepts repentance (Adam's story); Guidance vs. Misguidance: The necessity of following divine guidance; Accountability: The accountability of the Children of Israel; and Spiritual Strength: Prayer and patience as the foundation for overcoming difficulties.

Both folios has 12 lines of neat naskh script in black ink, with inter-linear commentary in red in Persian. Gold aya circles mark the verses of the scripture. Gold interlinears divide the lines of scripture and commentary. There is a significant amount of further commentary in the margins of both folios, together with a marginal illumination to the left folio that marks the 40th verse of the chapter.
