Description from the seller

Icon of Christ Pantocrator (Christ “Almighty” or “Ruler of all”), one of the most classic representations of Byzantine and Russian art.

Gestures

Right hand in a blessing gesture (two fingers extended and the others forming the monogram IC XC).

Left hand holding the Gospel, symbol of the Word of God and of Judgment.

Face: serene and solemn expression, with symmetrical features and frontal gaze, typical of canonical iconography.

Cruciform halo: Although very faint, the halo with the cross, characteristic of Christ, can be distinguished.

Coating (riza or oklad)

It covers almost the entire surface, leaving only the face and hands visible.

Support: Wooden table with a dark frame, typical of household icons.

Usage and meaning

Devotional icon for the home, intended for personal prayer.

The Pantocrator reminds us of Christ as a merciful Judge and Lord of the universe.

An authenticity certificate endorsed by the Ministry of Culture of Estonia is provided.
