Description from the seller
Neoclassical Shell Cameo Table Lamp – Carved Natural Shell on Gilt Metal Base – Early 20th Century:
A refined and rare decorative table lamp made from a large natural shell, finely carved in cameo, depicting a female profile in neoclassical style.
The engraving makes use of the different chromatic layers of the shell, achieving an elegant color contrast and a remarkably high-quality plastic/relief effect. Complete with internal illumination.
The shell, presumably belonging to the Cassis or Strombus family, is mounted on a gilded metal base (brass or bronze) with three cast, decorative feet in a classical style, which give the piece stability and decorative distinction.
A typical object of the decorative arts from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, valued as a luxury Grand Tour souvenir and as a scenographic furnishing element for classical interiors, studies, or drawing rooms.
Period
Late 19th – Early 20th century (around 1890–1930)
Materials
Natural shell carved as a cameo.
Gold metal (brass / bronze)
Good overall condition
Minimal signs of aging consistent with age.
Working electrical system (not certified according to modern standards).
Craftsmanship reminiscent of jewelry cameos, though this is an antique decorative lamp, sought after by collectors of applied arts and historical ornamental objects.
Tracked shipment with careful and professional packaging to ensure maximum protection during transport.
