Stefan Knapp, Abstract, an original oil painting from the 1960–1970 period, unsigned, in fair condition, 81 cm high by 92 cm wide, originating from Poland and sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
This is an abstract work by the Polish painter Stefan Knapp (July 11, 1921 – October 12, 1996).
The work has at a few spots small missing patches of paint (see photos).
The artwork is painted on both sides.
Knapp was a Polish painter and sculptor who worked mainly in Great Britain.
He developed and patented a technique whereby he painted with enamel paint on steel, which made it possible to decorate large-scale architectural and public structures.
His traumatic experiences in the Gulag and later as a pilot with the RAF caused years of recurring nightmares and insomnia.
As a result, he used his art as a form of therapy.
This led, in the late forties, to a series of works titled Gulag, which were notable for their use of experimental techniques.
Dimensions: 81 x 91 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
