Bronze Age cast bronze arrowhead, 14.9 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, with a triangular blade and central midrib, a short cylindrical stem and a long narrow tang; in good condition with minor edge chips and one barb, from a private collection (ex London Collection).
Description from the seller
A fine Bronze Age cast bronze arrowhead, featuring a triangular blade with sharp barbs, and a prominent central midrib. The blade descends into a short cylindrical stem, leading to a long and narrow tang. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface. Minor chips to the edges of the blade, as well as one of the barbs.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites settled in the Western Asiatic region. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of these bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most of these bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts.
Measurements: (circa) L 14.9cm x W 2.5cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
