Grasshopper
Signed, Koji Onaka
Toseisha/2006/japanese/200*230*15
Photographer Koji Onaka's photobook ‘Grasshopper (Signed)’. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Koji Onaka graduated from Tokyo School of Photography (now Tokyo Visual Arts) and joined the legendary self-run gallery “CAMP,” founded by Daido Moriyama, Keizo Kitajima, and others. He is a photographer who has held exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including at the gallery “Kaido” (which temporarily closed but reopened in 2016), and continues to actively publish photo books. He is known for his poetic and lyrical landscapes, including his early representative works ‘Tall Grass’ and ‘Distance’. This book is a collection of works composed of color landscapes he has energetically pursued since the 1990s. It features 93 plates photographed locally across Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, particularly in coastal port towns and rural villages. It became a companion volume to Dragonfly, later published by the same publisher, Tōsei-sha. Signed by the photographer.
