This painting is an original oil work by the Dutch-Belgian artist Corneille (Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo, 1922–2010), a prominent member of the CoBrA movement. The signature reads 'Corneille 2000', indicating a dating from the year 2000. The scene depicts two nude women in an intimate, mythological composition with bright, expressive colors (red, blue, green) and abstract elements such as a window with a landscape in the background – typical of Corneille's later style, inspired by female figures, nature, and exotic motifs.
The title is 'The Two Friends,' a recurring motif by Corneille. Similar works with this title from previous years (e.g., lithographies from 1979) show a similar pose of two women, but this is a unique painting from 2000.
