Description from the seller
Silver statue crown, 18th century (probably Virgin Mary)
Ancient crown in repoussé and chased silver, intended for a devotional statue, most likely a Marian representation.
It consists of a circular band decorated with relief ovals and diamonds, alternating and accentuated by a fine matting finish.
The upper section is openworked and adorned with a continuous pattern of scrollwork, foliage and stylized fleurons, with almond-shaped motifs and volutes, typical of religious ornamentation from the seventeenth to the eighteenth centuries.
The plant-based decor, rhythmic and symmetrical, evokes Marian symbolism (purity, spiritual fertility), which reinforces the attribution to a Virgin's crown.
Uniform antique patina, minor deformations and wear consistent with liturgical use and mounting on a statue.
Traces of past impacts and missing areas on certain tips.
Head diameter 9 cm
