Description from the seller

Large decorative ceramic plate hand-painted 'Birds at a Conference' – Ø 36 cm – 20th century (first half)

Description

Large decorative glazed ceramic plate, entirely hand-painted, depicting a naturalistic scene with birds (an auspicious/fortune-bringing subject) set in a wooded landscape.

The decoration features visible brushstrokes and a warm, tactile color palette, typical of handcrafted artisanal work rather than industrial production. The plate is ideal as wall decoration or for display (large size and strong visual impact).

Registrations / back

At the back are present:
• a handwritten inscription (period handwriting) that reads as: “The Birds at a Conference” (probable title of the work);
• additional handwritten letters/signs (initials or marginal notes) visible near the inscription, consistent with annotations by the author or the laboratory.

Suspension system (an important element for dating)

The plate is equipped with an original mounting system consisting of:
• natural fiber cord (hemp), with a hand-tied knot;
• hand-bent metal ring, with oxidation/patina consistent with its age.
These details (natural materials + non-industrial metal) support a characterization as artisanal production from the first half of the 20th century.

Symbolic meaning (lucky door)

The scene of birds gathered together ("a meeting") evokes traditional symbolism tied to harmony, fertility, and family prosperity, often interpreted as a blessing (also in relation to the birth of children).

Period

The first half of the 20th century (circa 1930–1950) (attribution based on materials, enamel, inscriptions, and the suspension system)

Conditions

Excellent / perfect condition: no cracks or chipping detected. Normal signs on the back, consistent with manual craftsmanship and with age.

Dimensions and weight
• Diameter: 36 cm
• Height: 5 cm
Weight: 1.8 kg

Shipping

Carefully packed shipment with adequate protections (shock-absorbing materials), insurance included, and tracking.
Delivery will be made to your home or at the nearest pickup point, choosing the fastest and most efficient option available.
