Caio Mario Garrubba was one of the first Western photographers to be granted a visa to enter Mao's China, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. His photographs offer a rare and authentic glimpse into the daily life of the Chinese people during that historical period, focusing on the ordinary individual rather than regime propaganda, thereby setting them apart from many other reports of the era.
