Oil on canvas by Carlo Trevisan, White Vespa, 2025, original edition, hand-signed, 30 × 30 × 2 cm, mounted on a wooden frame and ready to hang, depicting a vintage Vespa floating in an ethereal sky with a Surrealism and Magico Realismo flavour and a pop culture theme.
Description from the seller
In this oil on canvas titled "Vespa Bianca", Trevisan celebrates one of the most iconic symbols of Italian design, stripping it of its mechanical function to elevate it to an object of dream and memory.
The work depicts a vintage Vespa gliding with lightness through an ethereal space, free of roads or earthly references. As in much of Trevisan's output, the real blends with the imaginary to create a timeless vision.
The Vespa, a vehicle historically linked to travel and emancipation, here abandons the asphalt to soar into the sky. This choice underscores a feeling of absolute freedom, turning physical movement into a metaphysical flight.
The white of the bodywork gleams against the dusty blue of the sky, recalling a sense of purity and nostalgia. The rendering of the details, from the round headlamp to the curved lines of the body, is precise and clean, almost as if to preserve the integrity of the icon.
The quintessential fluffy, isolated clouds of Trevisan act as visual buoys in an ocean of air. Their presence stops time, transforming the painting into a contemplative pause where silence replaces the noise of the engine.
Trevisan here applies his typical language of Magical Realism. The object is rendered with extreme technical concreteness (lights and shadows shape the scooter’s volume), but its impossible placement projects it into the realm of the surreal. It is not only a portrait of a vehicle, but the evocation of a state of mind tied to carefree ease and elegance.
Oil painting on canvas mounted on a wooden frame, 30 x 30 x 2 cm; painted also on the edges and ready to hang.
