Description from the seller
Two silvered blakers from the United Kingdom, 19th century.
The small round blaker with a candle snuffer has an open-work pattern and a pearl edge. On the outside a candle snuffer is attached, purely decorative. On the inside is the candle holder with removable insert, whose silvered edge is worn and red copper is visible. Originally there was a glass lantern (windlicht) to accompany this blaker; that is missing. This lantern would have a diameter of 70 mm and would rest on the inner rim of the blaker. The blaker is marked Miller & Sons, Piccadilly, London, and numbered 7996. Miller & Sons specialized in making, among other things, candles, oil lamps, and other forms of lighting, and were active between 1835 and 1908. Dimensions: height 7 cm, outer diameter 7.9 cm, inner diameter 7.3 cm, candle holder 23 mm.
The silvered blaker with scalloped edges has a matching and loose candle-douter, attached with a hook to the handle. On this blaker the candle snuffer (snuiter), which should sit in the opening beneath the candle holder, is missing. The blaker is marked with symbols and letters of the maker, and with the letters EP (electro plated) featuring a crowned shield that was used in the United Kingdom until 1883. Dimensions: height 10.5 cm, diameter 15 cm, candle holder 23 mm.
