Description from the seller

Pendant Lemon Topaz / new

Set in 925 sterling silver

Including leather strap

3.30 g / 16.5 ct (weighed without leather strap)

17.3 mm x 12.0 mm x 6.4 mm

Brand new and unworn

The mineral topaz, also known under the misleading trade names Finder’s Diamond, Killiecrankie Diamond, Mogok Diamond, Saxon Diamond, and Slave Diamond, is a common island silicate with the chemical composition Al2[(F,OH)2|SiO4]. The fluorine (F) and hydroxide ions (OH) indicated in parentheses can substitute for each other in the formula (substitution, diadochy), but always in the same ratio to the other components of the mineral. An F-free OH- analog is known as a synthetic compound.

Topaz crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system and usually forms well-developed crystals that are sometimes quite broad, with short- to long-prismatic or columnar habits and a glass-like luster on the surfaces. In pure form, it is colorless and transparent. However, due to multiple light refractions caused by lattice defects or polycrystalline structure, it can also appear white and may take on yellow, pinkish-red to brownish-red, violet, light blue, and light green colors due to impurities, with transparency decreasing accordingly.

With a Mohs hardness of 8, topaz is among the hard minerals and serves as a reference point on the Mohs scale, which extends up to 10 (diamond). Similar to diamond, it is also brittle and can be easily cleaved along the basal plane (001) with perfectly smooth fracture surfaces, often indicated by cleavage cracks in the stone. Irregularly broken topaz exhibits uneven to weakly shell-shaped fracture surfaces.

Shipping as insured registered mail.
