Rule Without Exception, a French-language, hardcover catalogue signed by Lewis Baltz, first edition published in 1993 by Editions de la Différence, 154 pages, 23 x 23 cm, in excellent condition with dust jacket.
Description from the seller
A very rare copy signed on the title page by Lewis Baltz (1945 – 2014). This is the catalog of an exhibition shown at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris from March to May 1993 under the title “Lewis Baltz: Rule Without Exception.” Edition de la Différence, 1993. 23 x 23 cm, 156 pages, 36 black-and-white photographs and 10 color photographs. Black cloth binding with a very beautiful facsimile signature embossed in red on the cover and the title also embossed in red on the back, illustrated dust jacket.
Lewis Baltz has always been a topographer and a seeker of forms. His photographic series document sites of industrial civilization: wastelands, industrial wastelands, and residential areas and warehouses. Their forms inscribe themselves in the space of everyday life and are approached through their correspondence with forms of contemporary art. Piles of garbage appear as land art, the lettering on shop windows as language art, the lamps and window frames as minimalist objects in situ. Baltz's approach testifies to a reflective understanding of photography, in so far as it makes the photographer a visual guide whose pared-down gesture renders things visible.
Copy in excellent condition, almost like new. A book from my personal collection kept with the utmost care. Shipping protected with reinforced packaging and international postal tracking guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of grouped shipping with a refund of any overpaid postage via PayPal.
