Description from the seller
Ironstone China dinnerware set consisting of:
1 oval serving plate 39.9 x 32 cm
1 oval serving plate 34.8 x 28 cm
1 large round serving plate with a diameter of 33.3 cm
1 salad bowl, height 6.3 cm × diameter 23.5 cm
22 flat plates, diameter 27.2 cm
Oval plate for appetizers 21.2 x 13.3 cm
Produced by the company: Mason's Watteau Multicolor in England.
A polychrome decoration 'Watteau' hand-painted depicting central pastoral scenes within an oval frame. The beaded edge is decorated with scattered floral motifs.
The service is considered a collectible item. Ironstone was invented by Mason's in 1813, and the earliest examples bear their mark. The multicolored version of the Watteau pattern is highly sought after and more difficult to find. The colorful design is very charming, and the scene is picturesque, featuring a group of French people enjoying a musical interlude in a park-like setting with tall trees. It is part of a personal collection of an interior designer and would look great in a home! Condition: Interrupted. Produced in the first decade of the 20th century.
