Unique 19th-century French nightstand / luxury side table (chevet) with marble – circa 1875–1895

Very refined and rare 19th-century French chevet, crafted in wood and richly detailed in an elegant Louis XV style. This exceptional piece of furniture is not only perfect as a classic nightstand, but can also be excellent when used as a luxurious side table in a stylish interior.

The piece stands on beautifully curved cabriole legs with carved decorations and has a harmonious front with refined panel work. The original red/brown veined marble top, as well as the marble inner panel, are in very neat condition. The presence of marble on both the top and the interior side underscores the high-end character of this unique item.

Historical context

In the late 19th century, such pieces of furniture were produced for the well-to-do bourgeoisie and aristocracy. Originally intended as a nightstand, these chevets are nowadays increasingly used as exclusive side tables beside an armchair, sofa, or in a hallway, where they prove both functional and decorative.
