The iconic octopus artwork was created by Maciek Piotrowski. and appears in the film on hand tattoos, barge flags, and most memorably, on Octopussy's silk robe. For this the costume team customised a plain gown by commissioning a local Udaipur artist to hand paint straight onto the silk.
In the film, the robe is worn by Octopussy (Maud Adams) in the Octopalace, an exotic Indian residence which is home to her women-only sisterhood.
