Eugene Atget
Libroport/1993/japanese/198*145*60
The photo collection “Atget - Paris” by French photographer Eugène Atget. Atget aspired to be an actor from his twenties until around the age of 40, but was ultimately dismissed from the theater company. He then aspired to be a painter, but gave up on that dream. He eventually began taking photographs for artists' portfolios to earn a living, but passed away without achieving fame during his lifetime. However, his achievements were later introduced by American photographer Berenice Abbott, and his name became known worldwide to future generations. Atget photographed the streets, landscapes, workers, buildings, interiors, castle ruins, decorations, and other aspects of Paris, and his work is highly regarded for its documentary value and artistic merit in faithfully expressing the historical facts of Paris. This book is the Japanese edition of “Atget / Paris” published by Hazan in France in 1992. Although it is a small softcover book, it is a large work with about 800 illustrations. It is a valuable collection of materials that introduces the entire picture of Atget's Paris. The printing quality is also high, making it a book worth seeing.
