Description from the seller
“Barr gravity electric clock” – under a glass dome
A particularly charming and authentic clock with a nostalgic appearance. This piece comes from our own import from the United States.
From 1926, this type of clock appeared on the market. After a production halt at Poole, they were reintroduced from 1937 under the name Barr, with a renewed range of models.
The special thing about these clocks is the ingenious drive principle: the pendulum directly drives the gear train and thus the hands. To keep the pendulum in motion there is a drop alarm present. When the swing amplitude becomes too small, the drop alarm mechanism activates according to the Hipp toggle principle. The drop alarm then gives an impulse, causing the pendulum to swing with a larger amplitude again. This happens about every 20 seconds. While it is falling, the drop alarm closes an electrical contact, after which an anchor mechanism lifts the arm again.
This Barr clock on offer sits under a glass dome, making the fine movement fully visible. The serial number 30643 dates the clock to before 1940. It has a warm, classic appearance.
The movement has been fully ultrasonically cleaned, adjusted, and tested for proper operation. The case has been cleaned and washed. You are getting a handsome and reliably running clock here that you will enjoy for many years to come.
