Description from the seller
These CDs have sold for over £1000 at auction and represent an excellent investment in the more affordable segment of Banksy's work. The CD features the all-important 'BANKSY001' CD ID code on the bottom side near the centre hole, as shown in the picture. This code would have been added during manufacturing and is present on genuine Banksy CDs. Banksy and his team replaced several of Paris Hilton's CDs with these versions in HMV stores across the country. The initial batch was 500 CDs, followed by a second batch of 1000. This item comes from the second batch.
Can a CD from 15 years ago, possibly manipulated by Banksy, show some signs of use?
Banksy visited 42 record stores around the UK, replacing the original Paris Hilton CDs with his altered copies, placing them in the original sleeves with the barcode so they could be purchased. Banksy's stunt was featured in the national press, and as a result, most of the works were removed and destroyed at the time.
The one for sale in this advert is the second edition of 1000 CDs with similar artwork, but with the sticker that was on the outside of the Jewel case on the first 500 copies, now smaller and printed at the top right on the front of the booklet. For this edition, the CD was a properly mastered CD with printed design rather than the CD-ROM with 'Paris' written on the front that had been included in the HMV version.
The Paris Hilton CD forged by Banksy, originally released in 2008.
Produced in 1,000 copies.
