Andreas Bach (born April 21, 1886 in Nuremberg; died 1963 in the same place) was a German painter, lithographer, etcher, and graphic artist who was active in Nuremberg. He is a representative of Impressionism, i.e., Post-Impressionism.
Life
Bach completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer and worked as such at the Kunstanstalt Nister. From 1901 to 1907 he attended evening courses at the Nürnberg Kunstgewerbeschule under Heinrich Heim. He studied from 1909 to 1914 at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, with Angelo Jank and became a master student of Heinrich von Zügel. During his studies he received both a small silver medal and a large silver medal for his works. In 1916 he was drafted into military service. From 1918 he worked as a freelance painter in Nuremberg. He primarily painted animal subjects as well as scenes depicting crafts in Nuremberg and Franconia. From 1922 he was a member of the Nürnberger Kunstgenossenschaft. Together with Carl Kellner he restored the painting Kaufmannszug on the building of the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce in 1950.
Bach was a founding member in 1924 of the artists' group 'Die Hütte' and held exhibitions in Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz, Fürth, Erlangen, Bamberg, Coburg, Würzburg, Heidelberg, Nuremberg, Budapest (1929) and Copenhagen (1930). In 1961 a large special exhibition was also dedicated to him at the Franconian Gallery in Nuremberg. He was an honorary member of the Society of the Heinrich von Zügel Friends e. V., Würth on the Rhine. Many of his paintings are today owned by the City of Nuremberg.
