Hand-knotted Oriental rug from China – silk on silk

This hand-knotted Chinese rug is made entirely of silk—both the pile and the warp are silk. The refined material choice allows for a particularly detailed execution of the pattern and gives the surface a subtle, elegant sheen.

The elongated middle field is kept in a calm natural white base tone. In the center there is a finely wrought floral medallion with flowing scrolls and blossoms, complemented by smaller decorative motifs in the upper and lower field areas. The composition appears balanced and clearly structured, typical of classic Chinese silk carpets.

The surrounding border is rendered in warm rose, dusty rose, and beige tones and features stylized floral and ornamental shapes. It forms a harmonious contrast to the light background field and frames the design elegantly without appearing dominant. The color palette is overall soft and restrained, which makes the rug seem very timeless.
