Hand-knotted Oriental rug from China – silk on silk

This hand-knotted Chinese silk rug is made entirely of silk—both the pile and the warp are silk. This creates an exceptionally fine surface with a characteristic, shimmering sheen that varies with the angle of light.

The central area is designed to be calm and open, in a warm, gently shifting beige-rose tone. In the center sits a delicate floral medallion, subtly embedded in the background field and giving the rug texture without appearing dominant. The design consciously emphasizes restraint and elegance.

In the corners and along the field edge, finely crafted floral motifs appear with blossoms, leaves, and tendrils in soft pastel colors such as cream, antique pink, sage green, and light blue tones. The surrounding border in a gentle rose shade frames the design harmoniously and emphasizes the classic Chinese character.

The overall impression is very refined, calm, and decorative — typical of Chinese silk carpets, which are intended more as artistic home textiles than as bold patterned rugs.
