Description from the seller
BERARD Michel (1933–2020)
Abstract Composition
Oil on canvas
Workshop stamp on the back of the chassis.
Provenance: Artist's family
Beautiful abstract work by the French painter Michel Bérard, depicting an abstract composition in red, yellow and blue.
The artist used a bright color palette and played with the impasto of his painting and the contrast.
After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Orléans, Michel Bérard attended in Paris the Free Studios of the Académie de la Grande Chaumière from 1957 to 1959.
Initially a painter, he quickly takes an interest in tapestry. He collaborates with the TABARD workshops in Aubusson, then continues his training in Bayeux.
He illustrated numerous books before finally dedicating himself to his true passion, monumental sculpture. Many galleries hosted solo exhibitions of his work between 1959 and 1996.
Also working on international commissions, Michel BERARD consistently achieves great success and the praise of the press at his exhibitions in Montreal (1969), Stockholm (1975), Düsseldorf (1973) or Madrid (1992). Public commissions are numerous and it is possible to discover his works at La Maison de la Culture d’Orléans, in the Saint Jean de Braye housing estate, but especially in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines with the majestic five-meter aluminum sculpture, or near the ring road at Porte de la Chapelle with his famous COLUMN 1986, a ten-meter-high concrete work.
Today, his works are present in many public and private collections.
Dimensions: 38 x 55 cm, unframed.
This piece can form a pendant with the artist's other abstract composition.
