"Na de arbeid" oil on canvas by Willie Pierre (XX), Belgium, 1998, 50 × 60 cm, framed, original edition, signed “W. Pierre”, still life, period 1990-2000.
Description from the seller
Original oil painting on canvas by the artist Willie Pierre, titled After the labor. The work depicts a powerful still life with worn work boots, placed on newspaper, executed in an expressive and layered brushstroke. The depicted weekly is De Werker: a Belgian Dutch-language socialist magazine.
The composition breathes calm after physical exertion and refers to labor, craft, and daily life. The heavy boots serve as silent witnesses to work and effort, while the newspaper adds a layer of time and context. The color palette is earthy and restrained, with contrasting accents in red, blue, and white, typical of Pierre’s sober yet decisive visual language.
The painting is signed 'W. Pierre' and dated 1998 on the back. The work is framed and ready for display.
About the artist
Willie Pierre was born in Lesneven (Brittany, France) and was professionally active in the hospitality and food sector. He was a former teacher at the Training Institute and the Hotel School of Ostend.
As a self-taught artist, he began painting at a young age and further developed his technique with Marc Plettinck, the Ostend-based painter and graphic artist, his mentor.
Pierre drew his inspiration from everyday reality: everyday objects, still lifes, landscapes, and maritime themes. His work shows an attention to matter, texture, and composition, with the still life often carrying a symbolic meaning.
Norbert Hostyn (Conservator, Museum of Fine Arts, August 1, 1998) described his work as an authentic and honest visual language, rooted in daily life.
