For sale: Quad 405 (classic series), one of the most iconic power amplifiers in the history of British hi-fi.
Released in the late 1970s, this amplifier is famous for its revolutionary Current Dumping technology invented by Quad, which combines the advantages of transistor and tube amplifiers without their drawbacks: very low distortion, exceptional stability into difficult loads, natural musicality, and rock-solid reliability.
Main features:
• Power: 100 W per channel into 8 Ω (very comfortable in real-world dynamics)
• Compatible with 4 to 16 Ω speakers
• Total harmonic distortion: < 0.05% (measurements from the era)
• Bandwidth: 20 Hz – 20 kHz (approximately ±0.5 dB)
• Original DIN inputs (very common at the time – DIN → RCA adapter available if needed)
