Pair of two silver-plated Art Nouveau candelabras from 1890–1920, with a central column and two curved arms, richly decorated with floral motifs, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
The subject of the auction is a pair of richly decorated, three-armed candelabras, which constitute an excellent example of artisanal craftsmanship. The candlesticks are characterized by a dynamic form and intricate details.
Product characteristics:
Design: A classic construction with a central column and two S-shaped arms.
Ornamentation: very rich floral motifs – numerous rosebuds, flowers and acanthus leaves covering both the base, the shaft, and the candle sleeves themselves.
Shaft: Decorative, with a varying cross-section, featuring a clear motif of a medallion surrounded by floral garlands.
Base: Stable, wide, with an irregular, undulating rim bearing a repeated floral motif. Visible wear to the silvering.
Behavior and Defects:
The items show signs of use and the passage of time, which give them an authentic character, but require the buyer's attention:
Deformations of the arms: Visible asymmetries in the bending of the chandelier arms. In some shots the arms appear slightly misaligned with the vertical axis (a delicate adjustment may be necessary).
Coating condition: Visible localized wear of the silvering layer (especially on the raised parts of the ornaments), natural patina, and minor surface scratches. Micro-scratches caused by cleaning.
Contaminants: In the recesses of the ornaments and inside the bushing there are residues of old wax and deposits (they require professional cleaning).
Summary:
Despite the aforementioned defects, the candlesticks look extraordinarily impressive. Thanks to their intricate ornamentation, any flaws vanish in the glow of reflected light, making them a beautiful decoration for a stylish table or fireplace.
