Antique Victorian-style kolenkast dating from ca. 1900–1910, crafted in mahogany with brass-coloured handles, on four small decorative wheels.
Description from the seller
Coal cabinet, mahogany wood, brass-colored handles, and on wheels.
Possibly nineteenth-century, English style, Victorian (style)
A very decorative antique piece with a beautifully patinated appearance, in both the wood and the brass. This decorative coal cabinet can be put back into functional use. However, it is also a stunning piece to place in your living room as a showpiece or to display with it in a physical fireplace or pellet stove shop.
I’m dating it, given his story, but also by the style—the table from 1890–1910, possibly even older.
Very likely of English descent, the lady of Dutch origin had an English grandfather, and the cabinet had already been in his house and in the family.
Heavyweight due to all solid-wood parts, 14 kilograms
Height 65 cm
Height to the middle of the upstand: 72 cm
Width 39 cm
Depth 38.5 cm
The small wheels are 4 cm high.
The fold-out front opens forward. As you can see, it is very richly decorated. If you use the cabinet as a fireplace/pellet stove, you could keep extra logs out of sight. And when filling your pellet pellets, you could place the rest of the bag in this cabinet. Many people store their pellets in the shed, saving you extra trips back and forth. The cabinet could also be used for other purposes, for example as a hat rack, a place to store crafts, or a (paper) waste bin for a classically furnished office.
It stands on 4 narrow (possibly copper) refined wheels, the wheels are attached with flat-head screws and ensure that the cabinet is easily movable. They are about 4 cm high, making it easy to clean under the cabinet as well. There are several brass-colored, very stylish handles on the cabinet, all photographed. Please take a look at them; they may be bronze.
The top panel is damaged. A strategically placed potted plant lamp or statue will draw attention away from this damage. There is warping in the wood at the back of the cabinet. In my opinion they were already two pieces, but one is slightly more bowed, causing a small gap between them. Despite this, the cabinet could stand in the middle of the room; on all sides it is a beautifully patinated mahogany cabinet. I have taken photos from all sides. I detect no repairs. You are purchasing a very authentic decorative cabinet. Look closely at all the photos I have added to give you a clear picture of the status of this object.
