French SFBJ porcelain doll, 64 cm tall, dating to ~1910–1920, marked “R SFBJ PARIS 12” on the back of the neck, with an original wig, jointed composition body, blue sleepy eyes, open mouth showing teeth, original cotton undergarments and a dress with red shoes, no original box, in very good overall condition.
Description from the seller
Old French SFBJ doll, early 20th century (circa 1910–1920), large model, 64 cm tall, marked “R SFBJ PARIS 12,” in good overall condition, ideal for a collector.
Porcelain head bearing an incised mark “R SFBJ PARIS 12” on the back of the neck, corresponding to an early mold called “SFBJ Paris,” sometimes marked with an additional R.
Large blue glass sleeping eyes, mouth open with visible teeth, ears pierced for earrings (earrings not included).
Original wig with its cap, chestnut hair, worn but still presentable.
Original articulated body in composition/bisque (arms, legs and articulated hips) of SFBJ type, total height about 64 cm, in a condition consistent with its age.
Preserved period-cotton underwear (shirt, panties); the dress, red shoes, and accessories are newer but help showcase the doll well for the exhibition.
State of conservation
- No chip or crack on the porcelain head, only a few firing-origin defects at the back of the skull visible in photos (white marks).
- Body in good structural condition, with wear and paint loss, especially on the feet and legs, common on SFBJ dolls of this era.
- Functional sleeping-eye mechanism (to specify if needed in the listing according to your assessment), limbs securely held by elastic bands for display.
Large format (64 cm) very decorative, sought after by SFBJ collectors and
of French babies from the early 20th century.
The 'R SFBJ PARIS 12' brand is less common than the 60 or 301 molds, which
in fact, an interesting piece to add to a collection of French dolls.
