Description from the seller
Antique Brass Ritual Set – Divine Symbolism & Octagonal Offering Bowl – Southeast Asia (ca. 1900–1950)
An intriguing and characterful brass set from Southeast Asia, where spirituality, craftsmanship and decorative power come together. This ensemble breathes the atmosphere of a classical Wunderkammer: an object that not only adorns but also tells a story.
Vase with Divine Representation
The slender vase is richly executed in repoussé and finely chiseled. At the center appears a four-armed deity in a meditative pose – a symbol of cosmic harmony and protective power. Beside the figure is the lion (Simha), traditionally associated with the goddess Durga and standing for courage and spiritual protection.
The fluted rim and elegant foot give the piece a nearly ritual appearance. The deep, evenly developed patina enhances the relief and lends the piece a warm, historical glow.
Dimensions:
Height: 19.5 cm
Chest width: 9.5 cm
Feet diameter: 6.5 cm
Octagonal Engraved Bowl
The matching bowl has a distinctive octagonal shape and rests on a stepped foot. The surface is engraved all around with floral vines and geometric motifs – a vocabulary of form that is both spiritual and decorative.
The bowl can be interpreted as an offering bowl, a ritual bowl, or as a particularly decorative object within a collection context.
