Description from the seller
Elegant Napoleon III-style box in ebonized wood with brass fillets – 19th century
Charming rectangular box from the Napoleonic III era (Second Empire, around 1860–1880). This box, probably originally intended for jewelry or small correspondence, is a fine example of the craftsmanship of French tabletterie in the 19th century.
Exterior: Crafted from darkened wood (ebony or stained pear) with a varnished finish. The lid and the front panel are adorned with double brass inlays, framing a central cartouche (crest) in brass that is free of any engraving.
• Interior: entirely padded/upholstered with cream-colored moiré paper or fabric.
Locksmithing: lock entry with an escutcheon. Main advantage: the case is supplied with its functional key (clover-shaped).
• Overall condition: Good condition for an object over 150 years old.
• Details to note: Presence of light signs of wear and minor chips in the varnish/wood at the corners (see photos). The brass veneer is well preserved but two fine strips are missing. The interior is sound with a charming patina of wear.
