Qur'an - Bihar India, a single Arabic manuscript folio from around 1425, 9 × 11.5 cm, in fair condition.
Description from the seller
A miniature bi-folio from a Quran originating in the state of Bihar, India, circa 1425. The folio contains verses 5-19 (of 19 verses) of chapter 87, Al-A'la (The Most High) with the Surah and first two verses of chapter 88, Al-Ghashiyah (The Overwhelming Event). The 19-verse Makki surah (chapter 87) emphasises Allah’s oneness, his supreme power as Creator, and the truth of revelation. It commands the glorification of Allah, promises that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will not forget the Quran, and highlights that true success comes through self-purification and prioritizing the eternal afterlife over worldly life. It is a highly revered chapter often recited by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Friday prayers, Eid prayers, and Witr, and it is highly recommended to recite it frequently.
It is written in a Arabic naskh script, with black ink and red diactritical markings to guide the devotee through prayer. In this case there are 13 lines of fine script with gold 'aya' marking the verses and several 'Allah' in gold thuluth font. The script is divided by the illuminated chapter heading which cuts across folio. A large illuminated marginal marks the beginning of a new chapter of the Qur'an. It has been 'scored' on the reverse which has resulted in a mark running across the manuscript. This is stable, but has resulted in marking the folio down to 'fair condition'.
