D.O.K. De Olde Kruyk - Vase (2) - Ceramic

A unique pair of two modernist block vases from the renowned Dutch studio of artistic ceramics DOK (De Olde Kruyk) in Milsbeek. These authentic objects from the 1960s are the quintessence of Dutch modernism, characterized by a minimalist “chimney vase” form and a raw, artisanal finish.

The vessels were hand-formed from coarse-grained chamotte clay, giving them the characteristic heaviness and solidity typical of this workshop. Their surface is coated with a distinctive, multi-layer reduction glaze in deep tones of oxide red and earthy browns, with visible irregularities that result from the specific firing processes used by the craftsmen of De Olde Kruyk. The geometric, cubist silhouette combined with an organic texture makes these vases an excellent example of Mid-Century Modern aesthetics and highly valued collectible objects.
