Description from the seller

This is a splendid Wanli plate with underglaze blue decoration.
The rim is exceptionally thin and fired to a very hard finish, enhancing the vibrancy of the blue glaze.

In Japan, tea masters of the time held Chinese ceramics in high esteem and commissioned numerous pieces of underglaze blue porcelain.
In Japan, this style is called ko-sometsuke.
This plate is one such piece, used for serving sweets at tea ceremonies.
The bold deer motif painting also captured the hearts of the Japanese.

The diameter is about 22 cm.
