Description from the seller
Anton Martineau – Appassionato IV
Appassionato IV is part of Martineau’s series in which emotion, passion, and inner tension are central. The title refers to an intense, musically charged atmosphere, which is reflected in the dynamic composition and powerful expressiveness of the work.
With spontaneous lines and a figurative yet freely developed form, Martineau emphasizes feeling over realism. The presentation radiates energy and involvement and fits within his characteristic, emotionally charged visual language in which human experience is central.
As is often the case in his work, it is not about realistic details, but about the inner experience—passion, longing, and connectedness. The composition exudes rhythm and energy, fitting the fiery nature of the tango.
Anton Martineau (1926–2017) was a Dutch painter, draftsman, graphic artist, and sculptor. His work is characterized by an expressionist, figurative style in which emotion and human experience are central.
Martineau depicted themes such as love, death, relationships, and existential tension in powerful, sometimes raw compositions with a direct visual language. In addition to being a visual artist, he was also a poet, which is evident in the symbolic and narrative charge of his work.
