Description from the seller
Anton Martineau – Appassionata
Appassionata is a work in which Anton Martineau visualizes his fascination with passion, emotion and inner experience. Like in other works from this series, the emphasis is not on realistic representation, but on expressive lines, powerful forms and dynamic compositions that convey the intensity of the subject.
The work radiates a nearly musical energy, causing movement, emotion and tension to come together in a powerful visual experience that is characteristic of Martineau’s oeuvre.
As is often the case in his work, it is not about realistic details, but about the inner experience of passion, desire and connectedness. The composition radiates rhythm and energy, fitting the fiery nature of the tango.
Anton Martineau (1926–2017) was a Dutch painter, draftsman, graphic artist and sculptor. His work is characterized by an expressionist, figurative style in which emotion and human experience are central.
Martineau depicted themes such as love, death, relationships and existential tension in powerful, sometimes raw compositions with a direct imagery. In addition to being a visual artist he was also a poet, which is reflected in the symbolic and narrative charge of his work.
Framed dimensions: 112 x 91 cm
Unframed dimensions: 90 x 65 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. Furthermore we use restorers from the trade association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, of course we would like to hear.
