Sandalwood is a heavy wood, yellow in color with a very fine grain, whose fragrance lasts for decades and acts as a moth and insect repellent. During the British colonial era, sandalwood was imported into Great Britain from India, and it was also used in Asia for the manufacture of Anglo-Indian furniture and small objects. This box is intricately carved with figurative decoration, including immortals inspecting scrolls, pagodas, and prunus. A true, unique and elegant collector’s piece.
