Solid silver coquetier from China with a high-relief imperial dragon motif, dating to the late Qing or Republican period (c. 1890–1920), with dimensions 7 cm high, 4 cm wide and 4 cm deep, weighing about 35 g, in good condition with light age-related patina.
Description from the seller
Massive silver egg cup (or export silver) with dragon decoration – China – Late 19th / Early 20th century
Description of the item
Decoration: An exceptional high-relief design depicting an imperial dragon (symbol of power and luck) pursuing the sacred pearl. The chasing work on the dragon's scales and head is exquisitely refined.
Material: Silver (probably fineness between 800 and 900/1000, standard for export silver).
Marks: Presence of Chinese hallmarks under the base (see photos). These marks usually indicate the maker (silversmith) and the place of production (often Canton, Shanghai or Hong Kong).
Note for you: The mark seems to include characters such as "足銀" (Zu Yin), meaning "pure silver" or "quality silver".
Era: Late Qing Dynasty or Republic period (circa 1890 - 1920).
Condition: Good overall condition. Beautiful antique patina. Some light traces of oxidation that can be cleaned, but that attest to the piece's authenticity.
Condition of use.
