AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Marc Gonz

resistance.

In front of one of his paintings, we don’t look at an image. We face an inner landscape — a tactile memory we didn’t know we carried within us.

Marc Gonz’s way of working consists in burying layer after layer; in this burying process, a face is formed, part of the disorder and the error to find harmony. Marc Gonz’s works, through matter and color, present us with a distorted version of reality. The brutality and density of the brushstroke reveal a visceral work, sometimes vibrant, grotesque and primal, yet at the same time it expresses deep emotions that remind us of the ancestral, the spiritual, going to the essence without artifices, an excavation of the soul. With a mix of abstraction and expressionism, they create a transformation of the human form, where its meaning transcends. All of this gives us an idea of his complexity and leads us along the path to the deepest parts of the unconscious. The artist himself makes his own paintings, achieving an impasto technique in which the density of the paint is re-created, molding large, overflowing masses of imagery. The volume of the brushstrokes makes the works almost sculptural, creating microcosms that take on their own identity when we approach.

Graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona.
