Germain Van der Steen, born Germain Vandersteen Mauduit Larive on 7 July 1897 in Versailles and died on 12 April 1985 in Garches, is a French painter.

Germain Van der Steen went to study in England and will be a graduate of Oxford.

Mobilized during World War I, he was gassed.

After the armistice, he became a color merchant in the Etoile district of Paris. Passionate about painting, he would paint at night. He is self-taught and his art is linked to naive painting. Three periods can be distinguished in his artistic career: the non-figurative period, then the period of imaginary, multicolored vegetal motifs with draperies, and finally the period of bestiaries, where he mainly represents cats and birds. His colors are very bright.

Germain Van der Steen exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1944.
